PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera with an excellent operability of reproduction and display by displaying images having the number of pixels numerically equal to that of a display monitor during reading of the images. SOLUTION: In the electronic camera imaging an object image by an imaging element 202 and recording VGA image data acquired by an imaging in a memory card 208, VGA image data corresponding to display resolution of a display device 3 are produced by an ASIC 206 for image display based on the image data, the image data and the VGA image data are recorded in the same image file in the card 208. When reproducing and displaying images on the device 3, the VGA image is displayed on the device 3, the image data are read into a buffer memory 207 during displaying of the VGA image.
