Heat treatment of hypo-eutectoid tool steels comprising low pressure cementation at a temperature of 980-1,100 degreesC, soaking and tempering, also incorporates a stage of re-austenitisation between first and second soaking stages. An Independent claim is included for the application of this process to the heat treatment of steels with an initial carbon content greater than 0.20%.
