PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus and a method for generating a depth mage for generating the depth image corresponding to a two-dimensional still picture fetched from a video image not specifying photographing conditions. SOLUTION: The method for generating the depth image comprises the steps of storing a dynamic image in a dynamic image memory 12, fetching one two-dimensional still picture for constituting the dynamic image from the memory 12 by a still picture acquiring unit 14, fetching, for example, two-dimensional still picture before and after the two-dimensional still picture in timing from the memory 12 by a still, picture selector 16, and relating the distance between an area on an object and a camera to each pixel of the two-dimensional still picture by a depth image calculator 18 to thereby generate a depth image. Thus, a three-dimensional shape information of the subject and the depth image are obtained. |
