The stops 7 are mounted on square rods 9 supported at either end by bearings 10, 16 in disc 11 and cylinder 15 both of which are fastened to a shaft 13 for rotation therewith. Each rod 9 is rigidly connected at its right-hand end to a link 19 with a pin 22 engaged in a bearing 24 in a driving wheel 23 driven by a shaft 25, thus ensuring that the stops 7 maintain their parallel vertical orientation. Pairs of gear-wheels 30, 35; 31, 36 and 29, 34 may be selectively engaged by use of a handle 33 to release 2, 3 or 4 rows of bottles 3 by controlling the amount of rotation of the shaft 25 and thus the shaft 13 for a 90 degrees rotation of the maltese-cross 43.
