METHOD FOR DRIVING SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE AND CAMERA USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a solid-state image pickup device by which both high-speed reading of output signals during moving of pictures and reduction of power consumption can be realized. SOLUTION: This method for driving a solid-state image pickup device is used to transfer a signal charge which is read from a plurality of pixels arranged like a matrix, through a vertical transfer part 4 and a horizontal transfer part 7. While pixels in an area ranging successive more than three columns and more than one raw are set as a unit block, the signal charges on a specific column in the unit block are mixed in the vertical transfer part or the horizontal transfer part, and the signal charges on the row different from the specific column in the unit block are discharged to a drain 11 provided on the lower side of the horizontal transfer part.
