PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera wherein the electronic camera and an externally connected computer thereto achieve exclusively managing allocation information on a removable recording media mounted thereon. SOLUTION: When power-on is instructed by depressing a power switch 6, a system controller 27 detects whether a USB cable A is connected by a connection detection unit 30 and decides whether OK/menu button is depressed as well. If the USB cable is not connected, or if the USB cable is connected but the OK/menu button 8 is depressed, the system controller executes to access the recording medium 22 referring to and updating allocation information stored in the recording medium 22 using the file management unit 29. On the other hand, if the USB cable A is connected but OK/menu button 8 is not depressed, the system controller executes to access the recording medium 22 while receiving an address information from a device connected to the USB.
