PURPOSE: A method is provided to prevent an unnecessary strong discharge phenomenon while maintaining as amplitude of a voltage as an all-screen erase pulse turns off all display cells. CONSTITUTION: A frame is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, and each sub-field is divided into an address discharge period, a sustain discharge period, and an erase period. If an external power is supplied, the address discharge period, the sustain discharge period, and the erase period are repeated by a predetermined cycle, so that a radiation state of each display cell is selectively adjusted. when a reset period comes, an all-screen write pulse is inputted to X sustain electrodes before the address discharge period. And the first all-screen erase pulse is inputted to Y sustain electrodes with a predetermined time difference from the all-screen write pulse. In case that the address discharge period comes, a plurality of scan pulses are sequentially applied to the Y sustain electrodes according to a sequential method, and a plurality of address pulses are applied to the address electrodes at a point of time similar to an input point of time of the scan pulse. In case that the sustain discharge period comes, X and Y sustain pulses are in turn applied to X and Y sustain electrodes. The second all-screen erase pulse is inputted before the reset period is advanced. The second all-screen erase pulse has a profile that it is rising with a voltage width so as to have an orbit of a vertical shape and that it is falling so as to have an orbit of an inclined shape bent into an inner side. |
