<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining connection of twisted pair cables, without current carrying check between connectors. SOLUTION: A positive pulse is applied to one side of two core-wires, which constitute one channel, and a negative pulse is applied to the other side at the same level and timing. Subsequently, determination whether any crosstalk occurs at other channels is performed. If the two core-wires of a twisted pair cable are normally connected, impedance is stable so that electrical energies of positive and negative pulses are canceled each other. At this point, no crosstalk occurs in other channels. However, if not twisted pair cable, electrical energies of positive and negative pulses are not completely canceled, therefore crosstalk occurs in other channels. By detecting crosstalk, two core-wires are determined whether or not they constitute a twisted pair cable. In addition, the core-wires are determined whether they are short-circuited or disconnected, based on the voltage level of crosstalk.</p> |
