PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter-receiver and a transmission and reception method in which reception characteristics and transmission characteristics by high-speed time division duplex control can be improved. SOLUTION: A time-division communication device 100 has a variable power amplifier 103 using a higher-harmonic signals having common frequency in time division and amplifying variable power based on the higher-harmonic signals in a transmitter-receiver conducting transmission and reception only by prescribed time slots, a control means 120 inputting a control signal to the variable power amplifier 103, and a modulator 104 and a demodulator 111 changing an amplified output into a negative gain by the control signal in the prescribed time slot based on an output from the variable power amplifier 103 and transmitting and receiving the negative gain. Thus the device 100 is constituted so as to be able to prevent the deterioration of reception characteristics and transmission characteristics by high-speed time division duplex control.
