PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a laser power device and a laser power device, which can minimize the power interruption time, without damaging a load or the power device itself, even if a feedback detector fails. SOLUTION: Two or more detectors 9A, 9B between a main power source 5 and a load 7 detect currents or voltages, a difference calculator 17 obtains the absolute difference between detection signals, based thereon, and a comparator 21 compares the absolute difference with a specified reference. If the absolute difference is larger, it determines that either detector 9A or 9B fails, gives an alarm and takes measures such as turning off the main power source 5. An averaging means 11 averages detection signals from the two or more detectors 9A, 9B provided between the main power source 5 and the load 7 and feed back the average to the main power source 5.
