New polynucleotide from coryneform bacteria, useful when overexpressed for increasing fermentative amino acid production, encodes sigma factor D

Isolated polynucleotide (I) from coryneform bacteria, representing the sigD gene is: (i) 70% identical with a sequence that encodes a 188 amino acid sequence S1, reproduced; (ii) encodes a polypeptide at least 70% identical with S1; (iii) is the complement of (i) or (ii), or (iv) is a fragment of at least 15 consecutive nucleotides from (i)-(iii). Preferably the encoded polypeptide has sigma factor D activity. INDEPENDENT CLAMS are also included for the following: coryneform bacteria in which sig D activity has been increased, especially overexpressed; (1) production of L-amino acids, especially L-lysine, by fermenting the cells of (1); and coryneform bacteria that contain a vector including (I).
