A machine control mechanism (1) links to a computer (2) via a field bus interface (3) and connects up a spindle drive (11) to set a workpiece spindle rotating and to control its RPMs. The workpiece spindle holds a workpiece to be processed ready for rotating around its axis of rotation. The spindle drive connects as an encoder (11a) to a rotational impulse transmitter that passes multiple impulses to a meter (7) at each rotation of the workpiece spindle. These impulses define the actual angle and the actual RPM of the workpiece spindle.
