The engine has a pair of pistons (92,96) that reciprocate within respective engine cylinders (72,76) in four combustion cycles and accordingly rotates a crankshaft (80). A speed sensor (132) arranged near the crank shaft gears (1-30) detect the rotational speed of the crank shaft based on which the phase of the engine during single rotation is judged.
