Propagating circoviruses (CV), especially porcine circoviruses (PCV), comprising developing CV, isolated from infected cell cultures, from at least one passage on porcine, bovine or human cell cultures so that a cytopathic effect (CPE) appears, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) neutralizing or removing CV from biological materials; (2) detecting or quantifying antibodies (Ab) directed specifically against CV; (3) detecting or quantifying CV antigen (I); (4) vaccines and diagnostic agents containing inactivated or avirulent CV; and (5) use of CV for investigating the capacity of pharmaceuticals of biological origin or additives for pharmaceutical or diagnostic compositions for inactivating and/or removing CV and related viruses. |
