The cooking plate has a resistive heating element (2) beneath the plate connected to an electrical heating voltage supply. The resistive heating element forms at least one electrically conducting, open loop and can thus be used as an inductive sensor for pot detection, whereby the inductance of the loop is part of an electrical oscillatory circuit whose resonant frequency is detected by an evaluation unit (10).
