AN ENZYMATIC PROCESS FOR PREPARING β-LACTAM COMPOUNDS

An enzymatic process for the preparation of a semi-synthetic β-lactam antibiotic compound by reacting an N-substituted β-lactam with two enzymes, namely a penicillin acylase and an α-amino acid ester hydrolase or microorganism expressing these enzymes, with a precursor for the side chain of the β-lactam antibiotic compound has been described.
