A fluoropolymer additive, especially one for electrodes, comprising an aqueous dispersion of fine polytetrafluoroethylene particles which is obtained by the emulsion polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene in an aqueous medium and which contains an emulsifier used in the polymerization and optionally contains a dispersion stabilizer added after the polymerization, the emulsifier and the dispersion stabilizer each being not a nonionic surfactant or containing substantially no nonionic surfactants.
