The invention relates to 1-aryl-pyridin-2-(thi)ones of general formula (I), wherein Q represents O (oxygen) or S (sulfur), R<1> represents halogen, R<2> represents cyano, carbamoyl, thiocarbamoyl, halogen or optionally substitued alkyl, alkoxy or arylalkoxy, respectively, R<3> has the meaning given in the description, X<1> represents hydrogen, halogen or optionally substituted alkyl, X<2 > represents halogenalkyl and X<3> represents hydrogen, cyano, carboxy, carbamoyl, thiocarbamoyl, halogen or optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl; to methods and intermediate products for producing these compounds and to their use as selective herbicides.
