Sterilization apparatus for sterilization of medical wastes, e.g. bandages, needles, disposable syringes, gloves, test tubes, blades etc. The apparatus utilizes microwave energy and includes a treatment chamber (20), source of microwave energy (22), control and instrumentation means, electrical power supply means,(26) liquid medium reservoir (28) and steam release means (30). The source of microwave energy (22) comprises magnetron (22) with a hollow duct (24) configured to direct the microwaves first in two opposite directions and then in two approaching directions to enable their collision in a meeting point within the treatment chamber(20).
