PURPOSE: Provided is a slag check ball which is used in a steelmaking process and can maintain its original shape at an elevated temperature during a steel-outputting process from a converting furnace. CONSTITUTION: The slag check ball(10) comprises a mixture of inorganic refractory material(13) and a metallic wire(12). The metallic wire is an iron wire having a length of 1 to 3 mm. The slag check ball has a specific gravity between melted steel and slag, preferably in a range of 3.8 to 4.2 g/mm2. In the slag check ball, the inorganic refractory material is 60 to 80% by weight and the iron wire is 20 to 40% by weight. The slag check ball can maintain its shape during the steel-outputting process from the converting furnace and it is thus possible to stably perform the operation at the converting furnace at a minimum slag loss and improve the quality of produced steel.
