PURPOSE: A satellite broadcast receiver with a selective recording function and a selective recording method are provided to selectively control the compression rate of broadcasting program to be recorded or reservation-recorded so as to reduce the occupied range of a memory space. CONSTITUTION: A satellite broadcast receiver includes an audio switch(108), a video switch(114), an encoder(116), and a storing means. The audio switch switches an encoded audio signal separated from a selected broadcasting program to a recording route. The video switch switches a decoded video signal of the broadcasting program, output from a decoder, to another recording route. The encoder encodes the decoded video signal with a compression rate selected from a plurality of predetermined compression rates. The storing means stores the encoded audio signal and the encoded video signal in a memory block(118). |
