Class 113(2) [Also in Group VIII] An inflatable fabric member which may be utilized in the construction of temporary buildings, shelters, boats, pontoons and similar products, and which has substantially planar surfaces when inflated, comprises a plurality of segments arranged to form a single pneumatic chamber, each of the segments embodying two plies of substantially fluid-impervious fabric disposed in parallel relation to each other in the inflated condition and joined together by a plurality of substantially inextensible tie threads which are woven at least partially into each of the plies; a fabric element for joining together the margins of adjacent segments and maintaining the margins of the segments in the spaced relation when inflated, and having spaced apertures therein; and a fluid inlet in one of the segments. As shown, two adjacent segments composed of layers 5 and 6, 8 and 9, connected by a multiplicity of threads 7 and 10, and rendered fluid-impervious by a thin layer of rubber or the like, are joined by elements 12 comprisjng two layers of fabric 13, 14 joined together by stitching 15 and provided with a row of spaced apertures 16. The end portions 17, 18, 19 and 20 of the elements 12 are folded over and secured to the layers 5, 6, 8 and 9 by adhesive. Cover tapes or strips 22, 23 are adhesively bonded over the portions 17, 19 and 18, 20 and the adjacent portions of the segments. A valve for inflation is mounted on one of the segments. |
