The compressor comprises a rotor having a plurality of channels therein each having an axial inlet and a radial outlet. Gas introduced at an inlet 100 to a first one of the channels, is acted on by blades 101 in the first channel prior to passing to the diffuser vanes 111 in a stator channel which subsequently directs the gas to the inlet of a second rotor channel whereby multi-stage compression takes place. Various forms of rotor blades and stator vanes are disclosed asa re various sealing and bearing arrangements, and the rotor and an electric motor may be mounted on a common shaft. The rotor may be driven by an electric motor or turbine, and a plurality of compressors may be driven by a single motor (fig. 19). In an alternative configuration (fig. 10) gas enters the compressor via an inlet to a radially outermost stage. |
