The portal milling machine on which a milling unit (50) is movable on a portal (20) in a first direction and a second direction crossways to the machine longitudinal direction also has an elongated machine bed (10) on which a slide (30) is fitted. This slide is movable horizontally in the machine longitudinal direction by a linear guide (14,16) guiding the portal, and on it a workpiece clamping device (32) is fitted. In relation to the horizontal, the guide plane of the linear guide is so inclined at an angle crossways to the machine longitudinal direction that the swarf producecd during milling falls away solely due to the force of gravity of the linear guide. |
