PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval system which reduces traffic between a user terminal and each data server and communication time without increasing line capacity. SOLUTION: This information retrieval system consists of a circulation agent capsule 51 which circulates a plurality of data servers, stores obtained retrieval results data and comes back, a retrieval server 23 for sending the capsule 51 to the Internet 4 and reading the retrieval results from the capsule 51 that comes back and the plurality of the data servers 25 to 29 connected to the Internet 4. Retrieval is carried out in such a manner that the capsule 51 circulates the respective databases 25 to 29 while selecting data based on a retrieval condition desired by a user.
