PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an electric field at an actual transfer point constant without changing per color by controlling transfer bias or cancelling/eliminating surface potential. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a means for detecting charged potential on an intermediate transfer body after transfer for every time when the toner images of plural colors are successively transferred on the intermediate transfer body, then conrolling transfer bias voltage for the toner image of a next color based on the charged potential, and also a destaticizing means for keeping a transfer electric field for the toner image of the next color nearly constant by destaticizing the intermediate transfer body after the transfer for every time when the toner images of the plural colors are successively transferred on the intermediate transfer body instead of a means to control the transfer bias voltage.
