PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element with which excellent visibility is ensured over a wide temperature range in using an optical retardation plate composed of a side-chain type liquid crystalline polymer film. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element is obtained by forming the optical retardation plate with the side-chain type liquid crystalline polymer film and by making a relation between nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature (Tc1) of a liquid crystal and nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature (Tc2) of the optical retardation plate satisfy an inequality Tc2<=Tc1<=1.4×Tc2. |
