SOLUTION: On a transparent plastic film substrate 5, mixed liquid 7, which contains a ferroelectric liquid crystal that has spontaneous polarization, shows a chiral smetic C phase and a liquid crystal monomer, is printed in equal thickness, then, by holding it with the other transparent plastic film substrate 11, press-fitting with a roller 10 and a plate 9, hardening with photopolymerization, the liquid crystal optical modulator that can be made light-weight and increased in the size is manufactured.
