PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of a detector as a whole by preventing large variations in zero-point output values of a gas concentration sensor due to dew condensation, etc., and the deterioration of the gas concentration sensor. SOLUTION: In this gas concentration detector, a control means H causes the gas concentration sensor S to be powered intermittently and repetitively so as to switch it to a powered state when the concentration of a specific gas component is detected and to switch it to a non-powered state when the concentration of the specific gas component is not detected. The control means H memorizes, as a reference output value, the zero-point output value of the sensor S in a situation allowing a prediction that the specific component is zero when the sensor S is in a powered state. When zero-point deviation of the zero-point output value in the powered state of this time from the reference output value in the powered state of the last time is larger than a proper zero-point value, the sensor S is kept in a powered state, even if, thereafter, the concentration of the specific gas component is not detected.
