PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an element small in size and high in wavelength resolution by enlarging dispersion by minimizing an interval between connection waveguides. SOLUTION: Planar waveguide 12a and 12b, the connection waveguides 14 and channel waveguides 16a and 16b are provided on a substrate 10. Respective planar waveguides are provided with connection end surfaces 12aE and 12bE and input/output end surfaces 12aS and 12bS. Both connection end surfaces are connected to each other through the connection waveguides. The channel waveguides are connected to the input/output end surfaces of respective planar waveguides. In respective planar waveguides, distances from optical input/output parts of the input/output end surface to the connected parts between the connected end surface and the connection waveguides are respectively different for every connection waveguide. In respective planar waveguides, optical path converters 22a and 22b are provided in the connected parts with the connection waveguides. The conversion from the light propagating direction in the planar waveguide to the light propagating direction in the connection waveguide or the inverse conversion of this conversion is performed by the optical path converters. |
