<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator suitable for improving the color reproducibility of a spatial light modulator provided with a hologram color filter. SOLUTION: The spatial light modulator 1 is provided with the hologram color filter 91 which diffracts three primary color rays and emits them in respectively specified directions, pixels 923R, 923G, 923B arranged in the emission directions with corresponding colors and an optical modulation layer 925 arranged between the hologram color filter 91 and the pixels 923R, 923G, 923B. The illuminator makes the three primary color rays incident on the spatial light modulator 1 with respectively specified incident angles and is provided with a desired band cut filter 8 in an optical path generating a ray with an angle larger or smaller than the specified incident angle.</p> |
