A method for rendering metals corrosion resistant by treatment with an anti-corrosion agent, comprises contacting a ferrite-austenite duplex steel having a chromium content of 28-35 wt.% and a nickel content of 3-10 wt.% with an oxidizing agent, in the partial or complete absence of passivation air. An Independent claim is also included for a method for upgrading and optimizing urea production plants by replacing corrosion-susceptible pipes and equipment with those made from the above steel.
