PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard motor capable of realizing high output and low fuel consumption with a hydraulic valve operation characteristic variable mechanism and capable of simplifying an oil passage and enhancing the maintainability of a hydraulic pressure control valve. SOLUTION: This outboard motor 1 is equipped with an internal combustion engine 2 having a crankshaft 24; an engine body 3 fixed to a mount case 4; and a valve mechanism M1 for opening/closing a pair of suction valves 33 and a pair of exhaust valves 34. The valve mechanism M1 has the hydraulic valve operation characteristic variable mechanism M2 for varying the operation characteristic of the suction valves 33 according to the number of revolution of the engine. A working fluid passage for supplying hydraulic fluid to the valve operation characteristic variable mechanism M2 is branched from a lubricating oil passage for supplying lubricating oil from a hydraulic pump 86 to a bearing part of the crankshaft 24 and the valve mechanism M1, the branched part is installed in an upper seal cover 26 forming the upper wall part of the engine body 3, and a spool valve for controlling the hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic fluid is installed in the branched part. |
