PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alicyclic (meth)allyl ester for plastic lens that can be simply produced with high resistance to storage for a long period of time and provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The objective alicyclic (meth)allyl ester monomer, for example, diallyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate, is produced by allowing an alkyl ester of a polybasic acid bearing an alicyclic structure to react with allyl alcohol or methallyl alcohol in the presence of a transesterification reaction catalyst (at least one selected from a combination of an alkali metal salt of an organic and/or inorganic acid with an alkaline earth metal hydroxide and/or oxide, an organometallic complex, an organometallic compound, a tertiary amine, an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal carbonate salt and an alkali metal alkylalkoxides). The resultant monomer is allowed to react with polyhydric alcohol in the presence of a catalyst to produce an alicyclic (meth)allyl ester bearing a terminal structure of general formula 1 and the recurring units of general formula 2. This invention further relates to a composition for plastic lens containing the alicyclic (meth)allyl ester monomer and to plastic lens therefrom.
