PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition capable of lowering the viscosity of an unvulcanized rubber to improve processability, and improving mechanical properties at break and ageing resistance the vulcanized rubber. SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of a rubber and 0.1-10 pts.wt. of a maleimide compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R is an organic group bearing a 2C or higher hydrocarbyl group or an organic group bearing a phenyl group).
