PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil facilitated in the prevention of breakage upon replacing a colored sharp core and discriminating the color of core as well as the erasing of a letter while excellent in displaying property. SOLUTION: A knocking type sharp pencil is constituted of a chuck, provided at the tip end of a barrel so as to be lead rearward by a spring, and a refill core case, whose fore part of the main body is connected detachably to a barrel joint provided at the rear end of the chuck. A core guide unit is provided at the fore part of the inner hole of the case main body while a rear hole part and the fore hole part are communicated with the core guide unit through a small hole permitting the passing of only one piece of the core, further, a stopper member for precluding the passing of the core by opposing to the substantially fore end of the small hole is provided in the hole part before the case main body. When the refill core case is mounted on the barrel part of at the rear of the barrel joint from the rear end of the barrel, the precluding condition of the stopper member is released whereby an accommodating core received in the hole part rear the core case main body passes through the small hole, thereby permitting the penetration of the core to the rear end side of the chuck.
