PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a modified polyethylene suitable for an optical fiber spacer that is useful for improving the surface flatness of a molded article. SOLUTION: This modified polyethylene is manufactured by melting and kneading a polyethylene powder for granulation wherein the polyethylene is cross-linked during the kneading and is modified so that the rate of MIR(melt index ratio) after the cross-linking to MIR before the cross-linking is 1.15-1.80.
