PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine with improved working efficiency, allowing easy machining of a drill passage hole in a wall part between cylinder bores even if the wall part is narrow. SOLUTION: In this cylinder block 12 for the internal combustion engine wherein plural cylinder liners 11 are cast, the wall part between the cylinder bores 13 is formed with the drill passage hole 15. The periphery of each the liner 11 is formed with a groove 16 for enlarging a distance to the hole 15 in the portion of the wall part between the cylinder bores 13, wherein the distance is reduced. The groove 16 is filled with a constituting material of the block 12 to thicken the wall part between the cylinder bores 13 in the filling part. Thereby, even if the wall part is narrow, a problem such as the breaking through of the wall part by a drill when machining the hole 15 is solved.
