PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transverse drive unit capable of miniaturizing the engagement device of a transverse drive part comprising a plurality of juxtaposed rollers to transversely move a transverse tray by rotating the rollers at a low cost, so that it can be built in a roller body. SOLUTION: A plurality of rollers 4a for supporting the transverse tray 3 are rotatably juxtaposed, racks 22 and 22a are fixed to the lower surface position to which the weight of a tray rail 16 is not applied, drive wheels 17, 17a, 18, and 18a to be engaged with the racks 22 and 22a are provided to form the engagement part. The engagement part is arranged at least one position in each of the front and rear of the tray rail 16 to transversely move the transverse tray 3. The engagement part of the transverse tray 3 adjacent to a lifting space E is shifted to a non-interfering position. According to this structure, the transverse drive part can be miniaturized and built in a frame 15 to effectively prevent dust and water.
