PURPOSE: An active matrix organic electroluminescence display device and method for driving the same are provided to prolong a service life of the organic electroluminescence by allowing the organic electroluminescence to be applied before applying data to data lines. CONSTITUTION: A switching unit, a current driving unit, a capacitor(C2) and an organic electroluminescence(OEL) are connected between each of a plurality of scan lines(S1-Sm) and a plurality of data lines(D1-Dn) aligned in a matrix form. The switching unit comprises a switching transistor(N1) for transferring data of the data lines in response to a selective voltage applied to the scan lines. The current driving unit includes a first current driving transistor(P3), connected to a first voltage, for controlling a current flowing to the organic electroluminescence in response to the data transferred from the switching transistor and a second current driving transistor(N2), connected to a second voltage, for causing a reverse voltage to be applied to the organic electroluminescence in response to the data transferred from the switching transistor. The capacitor is connected between an output terminal of the switching transistor and the second voltage and a third voltage is applied to the organic electroluminescence.
