The electric motor includes a rotor whose windings are supplied via a collector. A brush plate includes two brushes (50) with springs (52) to urge the brushes radially inwards towards the collector of the rotor. The springs are displaceable between holding and active positions, being released into their active positions to bear on the brushes as the end cap is fitted to the motor. The electric motor includes a rotor whose windings are supplied via a collector, and a stator comprising a cylindrical carcass (30) within which there is a brush carrying plate (40) and an end cap (60). The brush plate includes two brushes (50) with springs (52) to urge the brushes radially inwards towards the collector of the rotor. The springs are displaceable between two positions. The first provides a holding position used prior to the complete assembly of the motor, in which the brush is separated from the collector. In the second working position the spring is released on to the brush and the brush is pressed into contact with the collector. The end cap (60) includes a projecting element (78) to move the brush and spring from the holding position to the active position as the end cap is fitted to the motor.
