PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silencer capable of providing a sound silencing effect without reducing the aperture area of an inlet even if it is mounted in an intake passage. SOLUTION: In the intake passage 40 in the upstream of an air cleaner 20, a side branch 10 extending in the axial direction of the passage is mounted on the lower side than the narrowest part 32 of the intake passage 40. The passage cross-sectional area S3 of a position for mounting the side branch 10 is equal to the passage cross-sectional area S1 of the narrowest part 32 or larger than the passage cross-sectional area S1 of the narrowest part 32.
