PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the component of exhaust gas flowing from a branch pipe of an exhaust manifold into a catalyst converter. SOLUTION: A first catalyst converter 20 is installed in a first intermediate pipe passage in which branch pipes 12, 15 of #1, #4 cylinders are collected, and a second catalyst converter 22 is installed in a second intermediate pipe passage in which branch pipes 13, 14 of #2, #3 cylinders are collected, and the branch pipes are smoothly joined with first and second joining pipes which form the intermediate passages in the directions where the shaft lines b1, b4, and b2, b3 of the branch pipes are inclined to the shaft lines c1, c2 of the first catalyst converter 20 and the second converter 22. O2 sensors 1, 2 are fixed in the standing (crossing) direction to a plane containing the shaft lines b1, b4 and a plane containing the shaft lines b2, b3, before joining, and thereby, a detecting part 3 of each O2 sensor reaches a passage center part in the vicinity of a joining point.
