METHOD FOR PRODUCING FLUORINE-CONTAINING ALCOHOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing alcohol suitable for producing an information-recording medium installed with a recording layer capable of writing in/reading out information with a laser on a base substrate (an optical disc such as a CD-R, DVD-R, etc.), and substantially free from an impurity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fluorine-containing alcohol expressed by the following formula (1): H(CF2CF2)nCH2OH [(n)=1 or 2] in the presence of a radical-generating source by using tetrafluoroethylene and methanol as starting materials comprises the steps of (i) reacting tetrafluoroethylene with methanol, and (ii) distilling the obtained crude reaction product in the presence of a base and water, or bringing the same in contact with the base and water, and then distilling for recovering the fluorine- containing alcohol of the formula (1).
