PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystal medium having high specific resistance and low threshold voltage and specifically suitable for MLC, TN or STN display. SOLUTION: This crystal medium includes as a base material a polar compound mixture having positive dielectric anisotropy and contains a compound represented by general formula I, a compound represented by general formula IIA, and/or compound represented by general formula IIB [Wherein, R is H or a 1-15C alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkenyloxy groups; R', R", R" are each 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy groups or 2-10 alkenyl group; Y is F, Cl or a 1-5C haloalkyl group; one CH2 of the haloalkyl group may be substituted with -O- or -CH=CH-; L is H or F]. |
