PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely roll or let out a spreader cable in rolling the spreader cable in a cable basket and letting out the same from the cable basket even in the case of the spreader cable increased in length and weight due to large size and high speed of a container crane. SOLUTION: This cable storing device is provided with the cable basket 9 mounted on a freely elevated head block 4 and capable of rolling the spreader cable 6, and a gear 20 provided on a trolley 2 to be rotated horizontally and driven by a pinion 24 to which the spreader cable 6 is fixed and which is driven by an electric motor 22. When the head block 4 is raised or lowered, the gear 20 can be rotated in a designated direction.
