PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brush seal which is usable in a gas turbine environment and has a durability to maintain the designed flow velocity of leakage during operation. SOLUTION: The brush seal includes a side board 12, a back board 14 and a batch of Bristols 16 placed between the side and back boards. The side board is in contact with the upper stream 20 of a batch of Bristols. The side board is in contact with the lower stream 22 of a batch of Bristol. The side board contains a plurality of openings 32, which are disposed to provide a gas passage for gas running off a batch of Bristols through the back board. For some implementation examples, the back board contains an outlet channel 34 disposed in alignment with the openings on the surface of the back board adjacent to a batch of Bristols. For other implementation examples, the radial length of the side board in contact with a batch of Bristols is shorter than that of the back board. |
