PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method which simplifies a coating process for a magnesium alloy product and forms a coating with a metallic luster of high brightness on the magnesium alloy product. SOLUTION: This method comprises mechanically polishing, rinsing with water, cleaning with chromic acid, rinsing with water, and then drying a surface of the magnesium alloy product before coating, and then coating the surface with a transparent overcoat (a clear or clear color coat).
