PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange a safety fence so as to save labor of maintenance inspection of the safety fence itself without enlarging the height of a hoistway. SOLUTION: A safety fence device 34 is arranged so as to surround a space on a car 8 from the side when the car 8 moves to the uppermost position in a maintenance operation mode, and the safety fence device 34 is fixed to the hoistway 1 side.
