PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material storing device capable of shortening material carrying-out time at low cost by improving a conventional material storing device. SOLUTION: An elevating/lowering cage 11 elevatable along a side surface of a storage shelf 1 is positioned at a position of a shelf 3 for storing a desired material W and one sheet of the material W is taken by moving a one-sheet taking unit 25 of the elevating/lowering cage 11 to the inside of the shelf 3. The one-sheet taking unit 25 is returned to the elevating/lowering cage 11, the elevating/lowering cage 11 is lowered, the taken-out material W is supplied to a carrying-out unit 51 and the material W is carried out to the next process. At this time, when the elevating/lowering cage 11 is positioned at the position of the desired shelf 3 by elevating/lowering the elevating/lowering cage 11, an elevating/lowering side transfer rail 23 provided on the elevating/lowering cage 11 and a shelf side transfer rail 7 provided on the shelf 3 are continuous and thereby the one-sheet taking unit 25 is capable of moving to the inside of the shelf 3 along the elevating/lowering side transfer rail 23 and the shelf side transfer rail 7.
